3 Ways to Manage Your Personal Brand
3 Ways to Manage Your Personal Brand Have you taken the time to craft a personal brand that accurately represents you, your goals, and your accomplishments, or are you letting Google create one for you? Yes, you have a personal brand, even if you have never put time into crafting it. It is what people think of you and the work you do, regardless if you agree with it or not. Donât worry, this does not have to be a daunting task. It can be quite liberating to have control over how people view you when we live in a world where everything you say, write, tape or do can be found online. Letâs get you back in control and walk through three things you can, and should do to create a personal brand that represents who you are and what you want to be known for. Ready? Lets dive in. 1) Be unique There are billions of people in this world who are competing for the same jobs, the same clients, and the same promotions. How do you plan to stand out from the crowd? We are conditioned to stay out of the limelight. Yes, it is safer this way, but where is this going to get you? Blending in and falling into the background is not going to get you noticed for the unique and interesting person you are. It is time to take out a good old fashion pen and paper (or use your laptop if you wish) and start a list of all the things that make you different and even quirky. This can be anything from the way you grew up to the things you care about most in life. Next, start to highlight the things that you think make you different from others to get a list of your most unique traits. Use these traits and begin to brainstorm how you can incorporate them into your personal brand goals. For example, I am a diehard Yogi. I do not just love any yoga, but hot yoga, most specifically hot yoga sculpt that requires me to do mountain climbers in a 100 degree room with 50 percent humidity. Not to mention, this occurs at 6:00 A.M. each morning. This is a big part of who I am, but this obsession also makes me different from those around me. Yes, people think I am crazy, but mostly they think I am highly dedicated and that I stop at nothing when I put my mind to it. I mean, if you have ever tried doing squat jumps or burpees in this type of temperature before, you would surely understand. Remember, you are trying to separate yourself from other people vying for the same things in life. Use what makes you different to your advantage. 2) Build expert power First and foremost, you will want to identify the expertise you wish to be known for. You cannot be good at everything, so pick the area you are most talented in and start learning everything and anything you can. Saying you are an expert is not enough to establish your brand. You need to prove your level of expertise by sharing this knowledge with your colleagues, friends, family and so forth. Keeping up-to-date with your industry is vital to building expert power. I understand finding such information can be challenging. An excellent way to save time and assure you receive the most up-to-date information is to identify the best resources to use. Iâve listed some of the most common traditional and online sources below. Choose the most appropriate for your industry and the type of work that you do. Set up Google Alerts and receive industry news from across the web. Sign up to receive industry-specific blog posts through RSS. Use Twitter to find people in your industry who are in-the-know. Use LinkedIn to connect with colleagues and industry leaders. Join industry-specific groups, and get the latest updates from articles by individuals of influence that are stored in Pulse. Take advantage of face-to-face networking opportunities; find a mentor, join trade organizations, attend trade shows and conferences. Lastly, the most important part of building expert power is devoting the time it takes to staying current. Staying up-to-date requires a regular commitment if it is to pay off, so work time into your schedule whenever you can. 3) Create consistency Creating consistency across your online presence is critical when you are building your personal brand. This includes your website, blog, Twitter account, LinkedIn profile, email address, and more. Each of your social networks should include the same picture, headline and background information. The information you share should be consistent and represent your brand. If you use Facebook for personal purposes only, make sure your privacy settings are set appropriately so images, posts you share, and posts you are tagged in cannot be pulled in Google. It is also important to secure social usernames that fit with your personal brand. Some people have unique names that will likely be available, but those with more common names can be unavailable. Here are two websites that help with claiming a username and to see if someone else is using your name on social media. Knowem.com Searches for how your name is being used by others on social media. NameChk.com Checks to see if your desired username is available across hundreds of social media networks. Apply these three things to manage your personal brand and you will find yourself standing out from the crowd as an identifiable leader in no time. What Should You Do to Get Your Resume Created?
What Should You Do to Get Your Resume Created? The question as to why the decision should be made to write a custom resume, or some other type of resume, has long been answered. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most crucial decisions that you will ever make when trying to land the perfect job that will allow you to enjoy life to the fullest. So, what should a person do? What should a person do to keep the dream job for themselves?Well, the first thing that you should do is find out what type of career they want you to pursue. If you are not sure, you can ask your prospects about it. This can help you decide which type of career path that you should take.Once you know what kind of career you want to pursue, the next thing that you should do is find a company that will be able to create a custom resume for you. There are many places that will help you out, but there are only a few companies that are able to produce a resume that matches the needs and requirements of any individual. To get your resume created, you will need to pay them a fee and wait for a certain period of time. This is called 'custom resume writing.' Depending on what type of career you are looking for, this process can take anywhere from a few days to a week.Once your resume is ready, you will then need to send it to the right people. It will be up to you who to send it to. You can either send it to your prospective employer, or you can send it to your possible boss at your previous job. There is no reason why your resume should not include a job objective. Job objectives are written down by every company when they are looking for new employees. This is used in conjunction with a cover letter and a resume when you are trying to land the dream job that you have always wanted.A job objective is like a description of the job you are applying for. It is written in a way that is easy to understand, so that the employer can quickly make a judgment call about whether or not they will hire you based on your resume alone.A job objective is something that is designed to make you stand out above the rest. Your objective should tell the employer about the skills and experiences that they need to know about you. A job objective may only be 10 to 15 words long, but they are enough to provide a great resume.

5 Ways to Build a Kickass LinkedIn Company Page
5 Ways to Build a Kickass LinkedIn Company Page A LinkedIn company page should be treated in the same way as a Facebook and Twitter page. With over 500 million members worldwide, and 20 million alone in the United Kingdom, the site is extremely popular and could attract a lot more business (and possible employees) than you first expect. Here are 5 crucial tips to follow to ensure your LinkedIn company page is in with the best. 1 Branding/banner Customers like to have logos and branding that they can recognise, therefore ensure the banner on your page is high quality, links in with your branding and colour scheme elsewhere but, importantly, is different to your Facebook cover photo or Twitter banner image. It is also necessary to ensure the right logos are uploaded onto your page (there are two logo options for LinkedIn pages the logo for the top of the page, and the square logo for the network updates on each followers home feed). If incorrect logos are uploaded, or they are not high quality enough it will ruin the effect of the page and put off possible customers or employees make sure everything is correct, branded the same and high quality. Additionally, ensure that all links to your company website are correct and working otherwise user may get lost in the internet and be put off your company. 2 Wording/search ability As a company, you will want your LinkedIn page to be one of the first results when future customers search certain terms or words. Dont overuse buzzwords, and dont use standard search terms that every company will use. Keep it simple if you are a recruiter in London, concentrating on media state that, and it will help your search ranking. In addition, keep it simple, no user wants to read three long paragraphs on the history of your company! 3 YouTube video Customers arriving at your page may not have too much time to spend reading long paragraphs of text so include a quick video. Who doesnt love a video? Build a quick YouTube clip that will summarise your company in 30 seconds and ensure you tailor it for your LinkedIn page, not just a general advert that a customer may have seen elsewhere. LinkedIn should be taken as a whole different outlet, with new content and branding, and a YouTube clip to fit. Keep the video short, sweet and interesting it may make someone click that very important Follow button! 4 Details and information LinkedIn give the options for users to fill in information that is found elsewhere such as web address and office address, but also companies can fill in company type, size, industry and status. Make sure this information is correct, up-to-date and filled in. Customers like to see facts about the company, as it makes them feel that you are actually a group of humans, instead of just a standard page. 5 Keep it updated The final and most important point to a great LinkedIn company page is to keep it updated. Too often I stumble across a LinkedIn company pages with very little information, and no updates and its not a good look. Be social, get your employees involved and commenting and keep the updates flowing and then the customers and prospective employees will flow in. Human Resources Networking How to do it right - Pathfinder Careers
Human Resources Networking How to do it right - Pathfinder Careers Human Resources Networking: How to do it right Recently, a friend emailed and asked if I knew anything about courting human resources folks during the initial job hiring process. Great topic and, of course, a splendid blog post idea. Too many times, external candidates look at human resources as the ENEMY who is tasked to weed the pile down. The truth, actually, is that human resources can be a great advocate, if you play your cards right. Itâs all in your methodology in approaching the human resources person. Here are some tips that will help you with networking and cultivating the human resource contacts at target companies to build meaningful relationships that hopefully will bear fruit: Common connections. Identify a company, then use Google and LinkedIn to slowly start moving in an ever-closing circle around the human resources contact. Who do you know within your circles that intersect with the circle of the person you are trying to reach? Itâs ok to ask your network for introductions or to pass one along to the right contact. Contact them before the opportunity opens. Smart career managers know that becoming a known quantity before the need arises is one of the fastest ways to track into a company. People like to hire people that they already know and like. So before a target job opens, if you are already known as a quality candidate to the human resources person, you can rest assured that youâll have a better chance of making it to an interview. Internal introductions. Did you know that many companies offer incentives to employees who refer candidates to the company? The mindset is that like attracts like, so if the current employee is a top producer, then generally, they are more likely to associate with other top producers. That alone carries a great deal of weight and gravitas with human resources departments, especially when an employee forwards your information to them with an implicit endorsement. With that kind of introduction, human resources managers are much more inclined to lean favorably in your direction. Hang out where they hang out. Many human resources folks are members of professional human resources organizations (Society for Human Resource Management â" SHRM) and local chapters. So if the local chapter is hosting a social event, why not sign up to attend as a non-member just to mingle in a low-pressure situation? Itâs a great way to connect, and chances are, someone at that event can introduce you socially to the key human resources person at your target company. Be respectful. Schmoozing requires deft skill in shaping a conversation, offering information, yet being cognizant that you arenât the only one demanding the time of the human resources contact. So if that little voice in your head starts telling you that you are monopolizing the time of the human resources person, then itâs time to break off the conversation and offer to follow up at different time. Be thankful. Putting the shoe on the other foot is a great way to gain perspective of what human resources goes through day in and day out. Human resources is a tough job; it involves handling internal conflict, negotiating salaries, administering benefits, dealing with injuries / hazards, risk mitigation, potential reduction in workforce, and trying to retain and recruit top talent. So really, in a lot of ways, human resources is a thankless job. Most of the time, human resources managers donât get a lot of recognition or gratitude. Anything you can do to sincerely express the efforts that they have made on your behalf can go a long way to winning them over. Understand that human resources is only one piece of the hiring puzzle. There are usually several layers of decision-making for each hire. Sometimes, there is a recruiter / headhunter involved, a hiring manager, and even executives. Each of the above approaches in building relationships within the target company should be applied to those layers. In short, itâs important to find as many inroads as you can to build up your credibility to the organization. And my friend? He made a connection with the human resources contact, which led to a referral another job opportunity. Which proves the case that you can never know where and how your networking efforts can lead.

Stop Watching CSI and Make Crime Analysis a Reality - CareerAlley
Stop Watching CSI and Make Crime Analysis a Reality - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail. Abraham Maslow Each week, countless viewers tune in to popular television shows like CSI because they are intrigued and fascinated by the plot and the characters. A few of those individuals, however, are more interested in the logic and psychology that goes into solving crimes and bringing criminals to justice under the law. If you have an interest in subjects like this, you might be an ideal candidate for a crime analysis career. Here are some of the steps you will need to take in order to secure your ideal job in this industry. 1. Understand Crime Analysis Before you decide that you want to pursue a career in crime analysis, it is important that you fully understand the subject and the job description. Crime analysts work to identify criminals, profile suspects, prevent crimes from taking place, and understand crime patterns. This is similar in many ways to the work that a police detective might do, but the work is not part of the police program. You may have an office in a police station, but you are not an officer and you do not have to complete police training. 2. Earn the Right Degree There is no specific crime analysis degree required to become a crime analyst. However, most employers look for individuals who have a minimum of a two year degree program. Ideally, candidates have a bachelors degree in a subject like criminal justice, sociology, or psychology. Although having experience is also very important, some kind of degree is almost always required when it comes to hiring even entry level crime analysts. 3. Gain Experience It is rare that crime analysts are hired for full time work until they have had some kind of similar work experience in the past. You might work in security as a trained guard for a museum or government building, in the police force, or in a legal office as a clerk or paralegal. This job experience should bring you additional knowledge about the legal and judicial systems to better prepare you for work as a crime analyst. 4. Complete a Practicum People who are interested in becoming a crime analyst will typically need to complete a practicum before they can be considered for employment positions. In states like California, a practicum is 400 hours long and is unpaid. During this practicum, you will learn all of the day-to-day work of a crime analyst. After completing the practicum, you will be ready to take on a career in the field. 5. Secure a Position Finding a job as a crime analyst is similar to finding any other kind of position. You can find jobs in every city and state in the nation. Most jobs are posted online and may be found on government or city employment websites, as they are considered to be civil servant positions. Salaries are commensurate with experience and living expenses in your area. If you find yourself looking forward to each episode of CSI, turn your passion into a career. Crime analysis is an exciting and fascinating field that combines science, justice, and logic into one career. Byline:Ada McNeill is a freelance blogger who works from home. Always drawn to interesting careers, Ada recommends checking out a criminal justice program, if youd like a particularly exciting job. This is a Guest post.
